Obituary of Douglas Gouthro

Douglas Gouthro, 86 Gardiner Mines We, the family of Douglas Gouthro, 86 of Gardiner Mines are heartbroken to announce his passing on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at home. He was the son of the late John Joe and Elizabeth (Farrow) Gouthro. Douglas is now reunited with his beloved wife, the late Audrey (Stewart), and together they spent 37 wonderful years together. Douglas worked in the Coal Mines for Devco from 1956-1991, in his younger years, Douglas enjoyed bowling, and darts, as well as doing carpenter work for pastime. Douglas loved a good game of cards and visiting the Casino every now and then. He was a member of the Gardiner Mines Pensioners Club and the K.O.C, but most of all he cherished the time spent with his family. Douglas is survived by his children: John (Donna), Glace Bay, Darlene Worthington, (with whom Douglas resided), Shauna Gouthro Hanson, Ottawa, ON, and Lois (Germain) Rioux, Cornwall, ON; sisters: Irene, Sr. Paul Marie, USA, Donna, Linda, Dominion, and Claire, Gardiner Mines; special friend Grace Delaney, Dominion; six grandchildren: Thomas, Sydney Mines, Matthew, Quinn, ON, Brittany, Victoria, BC, Rebecca, Dartmouth, Carol, ON, and five great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Alexa, Kenzi, Elias, and Enid; and extended family. Along with Douglas’ wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter Debbie in infancy; brothers Russell, Greg, Gordie, Kenny, and Paul; sister Betty; as well as his son-in-law Thomas (Tim) Worthington. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902.849.4199. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral Service to be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 11 am in St. Joseph’s Parish, Reserve Mines.
