John Francis MacDonald
Apr. 3, 1955 - Dec. 16, 2022
It is with great sadness that we, the family of John (Johnny) Francis MacDonald, announce the passing of our dear brother and father on December 16, 2022. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, on April 3, 1955, he was the son of the late Duncan and Victoria (Ryan) MacDonald and had lived in Halifax for most of his adult life.
Johnny is survived by his pride and joy, his only child, Allison (Mom - Susan), whom he loved very much. “Love You More” was his favourite saying for Allison. They enjoyed fossil hunting together, playing cards and board games. Johnny was an avid golfer, but his passion was his guitar and music. He was often the life at the party with his self-taught ability to sing and play instruments and prided himself in being able to learn and play complex songs on the guitar. Johnny was a welder and plater by trade and spent many years working with the Dept. of National Defence at the Halifax Dockyards. He will be remembered by his work colleagues as a man who readily imparted his knowledge and was helpful to all.
He will always be remembered by his siblings, Sherry (Tom) Sullivan, Rodina Whitman, New Waterford, Cape Breton, Duncan (Tina) MacDonald, L’Ardoise, Cape Breton, Stef (Shauna) MacDonald, New Waterford, Cape Breton, Cynthia Slattery, Saskatoon, SK; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Bruce, and Kevin (Barbara) MacDonald.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and care staff at the Halifax Infirmary, Unit 7.4 & the IMCU, for all their care and support; and to our cousin Shannon MacDonald for offering her support as Johnny’s care directive during his hospital stay.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax, NS, where visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
