Obituary of Gilbertha "Gibby" Slade

Mrs. Gilbertha “Gibby” (Bailey) Slade May 6, 1929 – May 25, 2022 On May 25, 2022, our Angel got her wings. We announce the peaceful passing of Gibby Slade, age 93, in her home surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Gilbertha (Boutilier) and Benjamin Bailey. Loved by All, Nanny truly loved and was devoted to her family and friends. Warm hugs, kind words, and hot tea were some of nanny’s specialties. With her love and beauty, she touched everyone she met, warming up a room with her smile and hearty laugh. Dedicated in her faith, she was member of St. Anne’s Parish Glace Bay. Survived by her daughters Gibby MacDonald (Robert), Patsy Glancey (Pat), and son Jackie (Bev) Slade. Grandchildren Frank (Shauna), Heather (Darryl), Meaghan (Shawn), Daniel (Ashely), Paul (Allison), Michael (Amanda), Kyle (Alyssa), MIssy, Angela (Russell). She leaves behind 8 great grandchildren, sister Sylvia (Calvin) MacPherson, brother Vivert (Bev) Bailey, and many nieces and nephews. Gibby was predeceased by the love of her life Pat Slade. Brothers Jimmy, George, Guy, and Cecil; Sisters Jeanette Brooks, Charlene Borden, and her great grandson Ryker Slade. Special Thanks to Dr Mark Ellerker, Dr George Burns and Vicky McMullin. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Parish, Main St., Glace Bay, with Fr. Duaine Deveraux presiding with Interment to follow.
