Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Deering, 73
Tablehead, Glace Bay
It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of our mom, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Deering, of Tablehead, Glace Bay on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, at Glace Bay Hospital. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Marion Walker Pyke and stepdaughter of the late Joseph Pyke, Glace Bay.
Mom loved to give, particularly to the kids who came about, sneaking them a five- or ten-dollar bill like it was a major drug deal. She threw impromptu pizza parties for the kids who were around the yard swimming or playing basketball.
Best known for her unlimited supply of treats, which she loved to offer, whether you needed it or not. Mom appreciated baseball, as a player and as a fan, and never missed an inning of Blue Jays Baseball; she would always look forward to that opening pitch and could write her own version of the Blue Jay’s in thirty to Boo in the morning.
Mom was a remarkable skater and dart shooter; she was also known to throw a mean game of washer toss, and horseshoes in her day. Her love of sports, her children, and grandchildren brought her to rinks, ballfields, and basketball courts. Social Media brought her performances from the west coast, of dance, gymnastics, basketball, and volleyball. Mom devoted her time doing the things she loved most.
Betty is survived by two sons: Lyle (Tracey) and Wade (Michelle); daughter: Dale Deering-Bert (Boo); brothers: JoJo (Cheryl), Gary, and Brian (Cindy); sisters: Debbie, Nancy (Roy) and special niece Betty Stuckey.
Mom is also survived by grandchildren: Connor (Erin), Colton (Alyssa), Ella, Mischa, and Addison; as well as several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Betty was predeceased by husband John, son Joseph and brother Keith.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all her caregivers over the past eight months, particularly the staff of Guardian Drugs, Dr. D. Ley, Anne, and Lynn; as well as Dr. Saliba and nurse Rhonda Byrne RN and the amazing team of 3-East of the Glace Bay Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Betty’s memory may be made to Palliative Care and/or Adopt a Teen at adoptateen@hotmail.com., code Betty.
