James Patrick Kennedy, Glace Bay
December 18, 1934 - August 5, 2021
Our family are sad to announce that we had to say “so long” to our Jim, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at New Waterford Hospital on August 5th, 2021.
Jim was the son of the late Jacob and Josephine (Tobin) Kennedy.
Jim worked as a machinist in the machine shop in Glace Bay.In his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jim had a keen interest in the war years having had three brothers and one sister who served their country in WW II; One brother did not return and was laid to rest in the Netherlands. Jim always placed a wreath on Remembrance Day in their memory. He enjoyed his music and spent many quiet hours listening to Newfoundland and Irish music, and of course Johnny Cash.
Jim met his beloved Anna when she was working at Mendelson’s store in Glace Bay,they were married in 1967 and had 54 years together. Throughout their lives, Jim and Anna enjoyed travelling; their favourite trips were out west to visit son Greg, daughter-in -law Noreen and grandson Breton. There was also an abundance of fond memories of their trips to Newfoundland. They travelled to Florida numerous times and made a special trip to England, always making friends wherever they went.
Jim and Anna loved nothing better than sitting down to tell their stories, often accompanied with tea and sandwiches. Jim had a quick wit and a story telling style all his own. Throughout Jim’s life he made a point of always helping others in whatever way needed.
Surviving Jim is his wife of 54 years, Anna Marie, stepson Greg Campbell, daughter-in-law Noreen and grandson Breton; Sister, Patricia Wood, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his sisters; Marjorie, Margaret, Elizabeth, Josephine, Julia, and Minnie; brothers Leo, William, Edward, Clayton, and Joseph (in Infancy).
Jim had childhood friends, and friends made along the way,he,and Mike(99 yrs.)had a special connection. To them all, Jim would say, thank you!
When Greg and Noreen were not in Cape Breton, their friends were always there for visits, and helping with appointments. We would like to express a special thank you to Evelyn and Fred for everything. Our family would also like to thank each and everyone at Parkland in Sydney, for their kindness, caring and friendship, which enriched Jim’s life.
Thank you to the nurses and doctors at New Waterford Hospital for their care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199.
At Jim’s request there will not be any service. A private interment will follow later at St. John’s Cemetery in Glace Bay.
