Obituary of Julie Marie Millen

Please share a memory of Julie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In Loving Memory It is with great sadness that we announce that Julie Millen, age 63, of Dartmouth, passed away March 27th at the Victoria General Hospital with family by her side. Born in Halifax, NS, she was the daughter of Kelvin Millen and Blanche (Dill) Millen. She is survived by her daughter, Laura, son-in law, Nick, brother John, nieces Alia, Tessa, and Faye, as well as her beloved grandsons, Nolan and Adrian. They were the light of her life. She looked forward to daily phone calls and weekly visits. She graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1979, prior to attending Dalhousie University and the Nova Scotia Teachers College. Her passion for education and literacy led her to a fulfilling career as a teacher where she touched many students’ lives. Her teaching career brought her many adventures, from Northern Saskatchewan to the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. She enjoyed travel, especially her Atlantic crossing to London on the Queen Mary II, where they dined with the ship’s Captain! She was thrilled to retire in her hometown of Dartmouth, where she reconnected with many cherished friends. In her retirement, she continued to volunteer at the library with their ESL program, making many good connections with her students. She loved her downtown Dartmouth community- she was passionate about supporting local business and often could be found enjoying the views from the waterfront. Julie never met a stranger - she could spark a conversation with anyone she met. Her vibrant personality brought light and joy to everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She loved art in all it’s forms, especially British music, films, and programs. She always looked forward to nights attending performances at the Nova Scotia Symphony, her book club, and get-togethers with family and friends. We thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support, including her family doctor, Dr. Varma, the staff on Unit 3B at the VG hospital, and the palliative care team. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
