With broken hearts, the family of Robert Gregory Ratchford, 79, of Glace Bay, announce his passing on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 5:10 p.m., where he was met at heaven’s gate by his parents and loved ones. A beloved father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, he left this world the way he lived his life, quietly and with dignity, knowing how much he was loved. Robert was the son of the late Dennis and Gladys (MacIntyre) Ratchford of Glace Bay.

Robert was an avid hunter in his younger years and spent many mornings fishing at the Brook in Mira. He loved deeply and expressed it daily and was a true gentleman to the end.

Robert is survived by his loving daughter Tracie Ratchford (Paul); sister Carol Binns; grandson Jordan Ratchford (Becca), granddaughters Haley Ratchford (Stephen), and Jessica Ratchford (Devyn); special niece and nephew Shawn Binns and Sarah (Jamie) Boire. Robert’s love extended to six great-grandchildren, two great nephews and a very special friend who we call his bonus/chosen grandson Trevor McMullin.

We would like to express our thanks to Hospice Cape Breton, nurses, doctors, cooks, cleaners, and the volunteers. Thank you for the excellent care with love and dignity you showed towards Robert on his final journey.

Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. (902-849-4199). As per his wishes, there will be no service at this time.
