Cam passed away peacefully, early in the morning of Sunday, August 23, 2026, while in palliative care in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in his 89th year. Cam is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Marlene (Hachborn), his children Todd and his wife Karen, Susan and her husband Roberto, and Craig and his wife Michelle. He is also survived by his grandchildren Cameron, Laura and her husband Will, Tony, Becca, and Sam. He also leaves behind his great-granddaughter Rosie, who he got to meet in person just over a month ago.

Cam was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Alice (Vaughan), and was the last surviving sibling, having been predeceased by Bob, Mary (Douglas), Doug, and Ken. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Cam was born and raised in Brantford, Ontario, and spent a large part of his working life there, working in both the food Industry and in insurance. He was the first ever store manager of the Brantford Food City, which opened in 1969 on Fairview Drive and is now a Zehrs. After leaving Food City, Cam went into the insurance business, where he rose to the position of Sales Manager with the local branch of Prudential Insurance.

Cam's great passion was the military. He joined the army reserves in his teens, and eventually rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, taking command of the 56th Field Regiment in 1979 and serving as the Commanding Officer until 1982, when a work opportunity presented itself in Nova Scotia.

The family moved to the Halifax area in 1982, where Cam went back into the food business, starting off as a store manager at the Green Street IGA store in Halifax, and once again rising through the corporate structure to become Manager of Corporate Stores. He eventually took on the position of Manager of Human Resources, where he remained until his retirement in 2000. In retirement, he enjoyed travelling with Marlene to various Caribbean destinations, working in the yard, getting together with his neighbours on Kingsmere Court, and even doing a stint as a school crossing guard!

Cam and Marlene returned to Brantford in 2008, but the call of the Maritimes proved too great, and they went back in 2016-to the same street, four houses down! The support and love that they have received from the Kingsmere Court community cannot be overstated, particularly as Cam's health began to decline. They are owed a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

Cremation has taken place. At Cam's request, there will be no visitation or funeral. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Paris, Ontario at a later date.
