Mary Elizabeth McNeil Campbell, 1925–2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Mary Campbell, on August 8th, 2026. Surrounded by her loving family at Glace Bay Hospital after a brief illness, she passed at 101 years of age. Born and raised in Reserve Mines, N.S., Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Gaigneur) McNeil.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband John A. Campbell, and her children Ronnie, Bernie, Brian, Lexie (Parsons), and Janie (MacDonald).

She will be deeply missed by her son Willy Campbell; daughters-in-law Tood, Sherry, Myrtle, Karen, and Jean Campbell; son-in-law Joe Parsons; and devoted cousin and loyal friend Lorraine Hussey.

Mary looked forward to regular visits from Myrtle Campbell, Lorraine Hussey, and granddaughter Lisa Parsons, who reported the daily goings-on to her.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride throughout her long life.

Mary is also survived by her brother Alex and sister Ann.

She was predeceased by her siblings Joseph, Anthony, Archie, Willy, Johnny, Peter, Maria, Lucy, Madeline, one brother and one sister who died in infancy, and her grandson, Stephan Campbell.

Mary had a lifelong love of music. She taught herself to play the piano, guitar, and harmonica, and especially she loved to dance.

Her faith was an important part of her life, and she devoted herself to daily Catholic prayer. She often said that her faith and her love of children were among the reasons she had lived such a long and fulfilling life. Praying the Rosary each evening at 7 PM with her son Willy and her loving granddaughter Alicia was a special source of pride and comfort to her.

Mary leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, faith, music, and family. She will be remembered for her strength, her devotion to God and those she loved, and the many generations of family whose lives she touched.

A very special thanks to the doctors and nurses who provided such great care to Mary over the years. Her family would also like to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Ley and all the staff on 3 West at the Glace Bay Hospital for their professional care and compassion throughout her stay there.

Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, (902-849-4199). Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 4-6 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11 a.m., in Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport.
