The family of Murdock Angus Campbell of South Bar are saddened to announce his passing on July 29, 2026, at the age of 86 years. He was the eldest son of Christena (nee Fraser) and Donald John Campbell.

Leaving to mourn are his spouse of 30 years, Lynn Peddle; daughter, Kim Campbell- Cassidy (husband Joe Cassidy) and son Robert Campbell, both residing in Calgary.

He was predeceased by son, Kevan; sister, Annie May Cormier, Brother Donald John (Donnie) and brother Gus.

Murdock started his career as most Cape Bretoners did at the time working in the mines and then decided to join the military at age 17 where he was in the Black Watch for 3 years. He resided in New Brunswick where he raised his family; working on Survey lines, logging and built houses until he had the opportunity to join the Iron Workers and proudly worked for 37 years at various locations throughout Canada.

He then retired and moved back to Cape Breton and resided in South Bar as this was where his heart called him to be. This was his dream as he had a love for the ocean; diving for oysters; riding his four-wheeler, cutting firewood and gardening.

He was a story telling enthusiast; sharing stories about his travels, hunting and his family. Usually who had the biggest and best garden was a source of debate with his brother Donnie with whom he shared his passion of vegetable gardening.

Later in life he loved to travel to Newfoundland and enjoyed days at the cabin and torturing the children in the family by being the big bear which they loved. Every visit he would make his personal trek to the old, shipwrecked Kyle.

Murdock will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his siblings, Margaret (husband Mike Gallagher), Alvin (wife Darlene) and sister-in-law Gayle Campbell (Donnie), all of Cape Breton; brother-in-law Roderick Peddle (Beverly); sisters-in-law, Natasha Peddle-Fortune (spouse Mark) and Linsay Pitcher (husband Trevor); adoptive mother-in-law and molasses cookie maker, Barbara; all residing in Newfoundland.

Murdock had a loving circle of grandchildren and great grandchildren of whom he had the joy of visits with at his home in South Bar.

Heart felt thanks to the Staff at the MacGillvray Guest home who made his stay there comfortable and enjoyable for not only him but his family as well.

A special thank you to the Palliative Care Unit at the Regional Hospital; your kindness and care was exceptional during his last days.
