It is with heavy hearts that the family of Terry Cash announce his passing on July 20, 2026. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, he was the son of Hugh (Colleen) Cash and Maggie (Gail) Madden. Terry is survived by his loving daughter, Charlize Delos Reyes Cash, and siblings: Shauna (Jenn) Cash, Brianna (Mathew) Sidney, Ashly (Jonathan) Cash, and Adam (Nikkol) Cash. Terry was predeceased by: Cleo (Mother to Charlize) and his common-law partner, Maggie Pawelec. Terry was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces for over thirty years.

In Terry’s younger years, you could find him wearing camo. We believe his interest in the army was developped at an early age because of his grandfather, Connie Madden, who served and fought in the Second World War. Terry enjoyed scuba diving in the Bras d’Or Lakes for mussels and ice climbing in Ontario, where he broke a bone in his arm and his friend had to drive him in his bumpy jeep to seek medical care. Last time when he and his common-law partner, Maggie, were here in Irish Cove, he put off the most spectacular fireworks display for all of Irish Cove to ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’ over.

Next his good friend, Nick Verbree, who started his Old Soldier Tool Works business. Terry naturally gravitated to blacksmithing and forging. It was in his family’s bloodline, the Cashs and MacLellans. He enjoyed it so much he started his own business, Cluaran Forge. He was an impressive handyman/inventor.

We got to witness Terry’s softer side when he had his sweet daughter, Charlize. He used his military sewing skills to repair Bah, her favorite stuffy. He also became an adequate braider for her eight braids, Dad.

Terry and his partner, Maggie, could be found either elbows deep in a reno or outside in their garden. No task was too big for the couple.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS. A Funeral Service will be held on August 4, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Johnstown, Cape Breton, led by Father John Yake and Chaplin Major Julie Simard. The Interment will take place in Johnstown Cemetery.
