It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Rose Hacala (Sagriff), who passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at the age of 83, in Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia.

Barbara was born on July 12, 1943, in Napanee, Ontario. She eventually made Nova Scotia her home, where she built a life centered around the people she loved most—her family.

Barbara was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward Joseph Hacala, and is survived by her partner, Donnie Ayles, whose unwavering love, support, and care were a source of great comfort to her throughout her final years. Donnie remained faithfully by her side until the very end and was her rock during life’s most difficult moments.

She leaves behind her children: Karen Landry (Steve Landry), Pam MacDow (Leonard MacDow), and Eddie Hacala. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Ashley Landry, Amanda McInnis, Jenna MacDow, Kyle MacDow, Tallis Hacala, and Joel Hacala. She was a proud great grandmother to Sutton, Emma and Lily. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara was unapologetically herself—a woman with a fierce love for her family and friends, a generous heart, and a knack for finding a bargain. She was an accomplished shopper who could turn a trip to Frenchy’s into a treasure hunt and never passed up an opportunity to visit a yard sale. She loved spending time in the Annapolis Valley and created countless memories with those she loved.

Christmas held a special place in Barbara’s heart. The tradition of gathering with family on Christmas Eve brought her immense joy, and those evenings filled with laughter, stories, and togetherness will be treasured forever.

Above all else, Barbara’s greatest accomplishment was her family. She loved deeply, supported fiercely, and helped shape the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her strength, determination, and unwavering loyalty will be remembered always.

In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A private celebration of life will be held with close family and friends to honour the remarkable woman she was and the memories she leaves behind. Barbara will be laid to rest on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Though she is no longer with us, her love lives on in the traditions she created, the lessons she taught, and the family she cherished so deeply. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
