My dearest husband, Beto,

You know how deeply I loved and appreciated you for so many reasons, especially for always allowing me to be myself. I thank God for the beautiful blessing of giving you the opportunity to meet your granddaughter, Alice ("Baby Al"). In time, she will come to know the incredible joy and love you brought to all of us as her Abu.

You left us far too soon, but your love, kindness, and spirit will live on forever in the hearts of your family, your friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known you.

Alberto L. Acosta was born in Cuba on December 10, 1960. In 1985, thanks to the courage of his brother, Jose, who had defected from Cuba, Alberto immigrated to Canada with his mother, Martha, and his brother, Thomas. He built a wonderful life in Halifax, where he raised the two children he adored and was immensely proud of: Elena (Chris Dingwell) and Evan.

Later in life, Alberto married the love of his life, Graciela "Gachy" Silva-Arrieta. He also became a devoted father figure to Sergio Lorenzo (Rebecca Mainardi), surrounding him with unconditional love, guidance, and support.

Nothing brought Alberto greater happiness than his family. He leaves behind his beloved children and four cherished grandchildren, Gabriella, Luka, Evie, and Alice, all of whom will forever carry his love and feel the absence of his warmth and gentle presence.

He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews and niece, Jose Acosta Jr. (Rachel Hiltz), Tommy Alberto, and Vanessa Acosta-Leslie (Tonya Leslie); his sister-in-law, Gloria Acosta; and his great-niece, Maria, who brought him endless joy. He treasured every moment spent playing with her, and she will miss her Tío Alberto dearly.

Alberto dedicated more than 30 years of service to Shaw Brick, where he was affectionately known as "Huly." He formed many lasting friendships there, and his coworkers remained a constant source of friendship and support long after his retirement in December 2025.

Alberto treasured the friendships he shared through the ROMEO Club and always looked forward to evenings spent laughing and making memories with his closest friends.

Elena and I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our longtime friends—our chosen family—who surrounded us with love, compassion, and unwavering support throughout the past six months.

We also extend our sincere thanks to our international students for the thoughtful messages and phone calls from abroad. It was a privilege to welcome you into our home and our lives, and your kindness has meant more than words can express.

Our deepest gratitude goes to Palliative Care nurse Meagen Farmer and Halifax Hospice Nurse Manager Claire Prashad for ensuring Alberto's transition from home to Hospice Halifax was swift, compassionate, and seamless. We are forever grateful to every member of the Hospice Halifax team whose extraordinary care, kindness, and dignity brought comfort to Alberto and to our family during his final days.

A special thank you to Darlene Bennett and Nancy Sampson for the loving care and compassion you showed Beto during his final weeks at home.

As Beto often reminded us: "Life is every day we open our eyes; death comes only once."

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alberto's memory may be made to Hospice Halifax.

A Celebration of Life will be held at our home in Timberlea. Details will be announced at a later date.
