Gerard Thomas Obituary
Gerard Thomas, 63
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with broken heart that we announce the sudden passing of Gerard Thomas on Monday, July 13, 2026. Gerard passed away peacefully at his home in Glace Bay with his wife by his side. Born on February 28,1963, he was the son of Lucy and the late Leo Thomas. Gerard was the epitome of integrity, kindness, and unmatched loyalty. Gerard was a lifelong fisherman who loved being on the sea, but his true love was anchored in the time spent with Becca, whether that be at home, on the road, or on the boat.
The things Gerard loved most, were sailing on Bras’dor Lakes with Becca and their beloved Bella, going for trips in the motor home, the good times spent in the silver dome, his love for black labs, and his cat Chippy. He also enjoyed trying his luck while enjoying a draught and a glass of wine with Becca.
Gerard was a proud Cape Bretoner who was very passionate about music, it was his love for both, as well as his sister Charlene that inspired him to write “Cape Breton You Belong To Me.”
Gerard was so proud of his crew, Roger and Aaron who made his season so effortless. He also greatly appreciated his “bait” buddies Kevin King and Brian King for all the help they have given him over the years. Thank you to the guys on the wharf as well. He will be greatly missed by his friends in Port Morien and Jiggers, as well as his cousin and friend Darrick, they were thick as thieves.
To know Gerard, was to love him. His quick wit and humour could brighten anyone’s day. Gerard who was a friend to everyone, he was there for anyone who needed him. His kindness and generosity were endless, always putting others first and not expecting anything in return.
Gerard was not only the love of Becca’s life but her greatest accomplishment, and her best friend. Gerard and Becca shared 41 years of being completely devoted to each other, always having each other’s back.
Gerard is survived by his loving wife Becca, and his daughter by choice, Emma (Robbie), and his beautiful mother Lucy whom he adored. Sisters Charlene (Matt), Carol Ann (James). Nephews Mark, Brian, Robby, and Brandon. Brother-in-law Darrell (Margie), as well as many friends and relatives.
Gerard was predeceased by his father Leo. His mother-in-law Myrtle, father-in-law Benito, and predeceased by sisters in law, Tina, Lillian, and Marlaine.
Cremation has taken place under the care of T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, Glace Bay, N.S. (902) 849-4199. There will be a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Caledonia Club from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

If I could only fly, If I could only fly,
I’d bid this place goodbye, to come and be with you.
But I can hardly stand, and I got nowhere to run.
Another sinking sun, and one more lonely night
If I could only fly
If I could only fly
If I could only fly
Then I could be with you
