Joseph Jerome Sampson Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerome Joseph Sampson, age 69, of Herring Cove, Nova Scotia. Jerome passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Born on December 31, 1956, Jerome was a man known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and deep love of sport fishing, hunting, golfing, baseball, comics, movies and music.
In 1978, Jerome began a 44-year career as a machinist at the Halifax Dockyard and retired in April 2022 leaving behind a legacy of dedication and lifelong friendships. Jerome truly loved his work and was always the first to offer a helping hand or support to anyone in need.
Jerome found great joy in the outdoors and could usually be found along a river fishing salmon or trout with family and friends as they explored the many rivers of Nova Scotia together. He was always eager to share stories, knowledge, and good company.
His dogs, Maggie (his first and most beloved dog), Ellie and Lexie spent countless occasions duck hunting with him. They brought him immeasurable joy and faithful companionship over the years.
Jerome also spent many peaceful hours tying fishing flies and carving wooden ducks, two hobbies that reflected his patience, creativity, and appreciation for nature. In his younger years, he was a talented baseball player, proudly playing with the Louisdale Braves in the Richmond Amateur Baseball Association, as well as several intermediate teams in Halifax, where he formed many friendships.
Jerome is survived by his sons, Trevor Sampson (Julie Daye) of Halifax and Cameron Sampson of Dartmouth; his granddaughter, Layla; his brother, Godfrey Sampson (Renette) of Petit de Grat and his lifelong best friend, Paul Rogers.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Eleanor Sampson of Louisdale; his paternal grandparents, Ida and Jimmy Sampson; and his maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Alcina Marchand.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his relatives, friends and the healthcare professionals whose compassion, kindness, and care brought comfort to Jerome throughout his illness.
In keeping with Jerome's wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada – Nova Scotia Branch.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jerome's life on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville, Nova Scotia, B3S 1C4.
