It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen MacDonald (Penney), age 92, who grew up on Richmond St. Sydney. Helen passed away July 11th at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born April 28 1934 in Sydney NS, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Penney and Mary Obeline (Pottie).

She is survived by her son, Gary MacDonald (Lynn); daughter, Colleen Mombourguette (Paul); grandchildren, Tracy, Paul, Nicole, and Patrick; grand stepchildren, Melissa, and Jeremy; great grandchildren, Jessie, Emma, Brooke, Pennie, Paige, Ethan, Rory, Riley, Aaron, Jake, Andy, Bria, Liv, Sophie, Avery and lsla.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Frank MacDonald; brothers, Thomas (Alice), Leo (Shirley), Vincent (Merle); and sisters, Margaret (Fred), Martha (Paul), Kay (Paul), and Jenny (Roy).

Helen raised her family on Lorne St., then to her home at Hillside, Mira, and most recently McDonald's Lane. Helen was a good wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, aunt, and treasured friend.

Helen was very loved by her family and all who had the pleasure in knowing her. She had a remarkable sense of humor that could brighten up anyone's day. She always had a verse, a saying, or a witty remark for every situation.

Helen shared her home and heart with many pets (dogs, cats, birds) over the years. She enjoyed grooming dogs for a pastime. She was a hard worker and determination, strength, and independence defined her character right to the end. Her legacy will live on in her family and all those she has touched. May she now rest in peace.

Helen is the last surviving member of her family.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney. A church service will be held at a later date.
