Arthur "Art" Borden Obituary

Arthur “Art” Anderson Borden

Donkin, N.S.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arthur “Art” Anderson Borden at the age of 80. Art passed surrounded by his family, on July 12, 2026, in Harbourstone Enhanced Care. A lifelong resident of Donkin, Art was the son of the late James and Annie (Anderson) Borden.

Art was a hardworking man who spent many years as both a fisherman and a carpenter. He was a lifelong lover of music and a proud member of the Donkin Brass Band, where he played the trombone. He was also an avid skater and a fan of hockey and figure skating. With his own two hands, Art built the family home. More than the house itself, his greatest pride was building a family and keeping them together.

Art is survived by his beloved wife, Susan (Penson) Borden, who have been together for over 55 years. In their younger years, they enjoyed taking road trips, going to the movies or local shows, attending church, and simply spending time together. Together, they built a life centered around their family.

He was a proud father to Dennis (Tammy), Chris (Amanda), Darren, and Ian (Adrienne), and an even prouder Poppy to Genna (Brent) Chisholm, Michael, Jamie (Bri Reid), Josh, Ryan (Jill Doucette), Anna, Jorja, Addyson, and Myles, and a cherished great-grandfather to Lily Chisholm.

Art loved visits from his grandchildren and never missed the chance to spoil himself with a Vachon pastry, a piece of fudge, or a bottle of Diet Pop. For more than 50 years, Christmas Eve meant a trip to the mall for last-minute shopping and lunch with the family—a tradition he started to give the moms time to prepare for Christmas. It became one of the family’s most treasured traditions.

Art is also survived by his beloved older brother, James (Nancy) Borden; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Chris Jewett; brother-in-law, Johnny (Carla) Penson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Cremation has taken place, and a service in celebration of Art’s life will be held at on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 2 p.m., in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. (902)849-4199.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a local charity of your choice.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported Art during the final chapter of his life, especially the staff and support workers at Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their compassion and care. A thank you to his daughter-in-law, Amanda, for the incredible nursing, care, and unwavering support she provided during his final days.

Art will be remembered for his quiet strength, his kind heart, his sweet tooth, and, above all else, the deep love he had for his family. The memories, traditions, and laughter he leaves behind will continue to be shared and treasured for generations to come.
