Harold Arthur "Sonny" Hines Obituary
With immense sadness we announce that Harold Arthur "Sonny" Hines, age 89, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 5, 2026, following a stroke and a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 9, 1937, he was the cherished son of the late Chester and Mary Hines (Howie Center).
A pillar of his community and a man of incredible generosity, Sonny spent his life quietly helping others. He was always the first to lend a hand to family or friends in need, expecting absolutely nothing in return.
For many years, he and his wife poured their hearts into running their local businesses - Harold Hines Services Ltd., Hines Towing Ltd., and Harbourview Trikes. As hard as he worked to build his businesses, his true devotion was always to his family.
Sonny leaves behind his wife of nearly 50 wonderful years, the absolute love of his life, Shirley Violet (Clyburne). Together, they built a beautiful life defined by a deep partnership, an adventurous spirit, and a shared passion for travel.
His legacy lives on through his sons, Dale Arthur (Jackie) and Terrence Drew, and his adored granddaughters, Jessica and Kristen. He is also survived by his one remaining brother. Sonny has now been reunited with his beloved daughter, Jean Marie, as well as his three brothers and two sisters who predeceased him.
His warmth, kindness, and hard-working spirit will be profoundly missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
