Sadie Josephine MacDonald Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister Sadie, the much-loved daughter of the late Norman and Margie MacDonald of East Bay.
Always nurturing, Sadie’s true passion in life was caring for others. Most of her working years were spent as a caregiver who was much loved by those who were lucky to have her in their lives. She spent more than 18 years with the Gillis family of East Bay, and a number of years with the Logues, Morrisons and Gallaways.
Sadie loved Cape Breton music, especially Rita MacNeil, and never missed an opportunity to attend a concert. She was always present at family gatherings, chatting with everyone and laughing at the craziness that often ensued. In recent years she was a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care.
Sadie is survived by sisters, Susan Campbell (the late Peter Campbell) and Kathy MacAdam (Wayne), as well as brothers, Bob MacDonald (Martyne) and Norman MacDonald (the late Sandra MacDonald).
Sadie was predeceased by her parents and brother, Mike. She was a doting and dedicated aunt to her 6 nieces; (Lindsay, Norma, Teresa, Jane, Laura and Amanda;) and 5 nephews, (Derick, John, Martin, Norman and Michael) who all loved her dearly, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Sadie made a point to keep in touch with all of her nieces and nephews, by phone or by Facebook, as they grew up and moved away. She never missed an opportunity to tell anyone who would listen how proud she was of each of them, and every Christmas they looked forward to replacing their socks with fresh, new “Sadie socks”! Sadie also leaves behind to mourn two goddaughters; Jennifer MacLean and Norma Campbell.
The family would like to thank those who helped take care of Sadie in her last years, just as she took care of others throughout her life. Particular thanks to the staff of Harbourstone, Cape Breton Palliative Care Team, and family, friends and neighbours who visited her often.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Sydney. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, July 8, 10 am, at St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay, Fr. Anthony O’Connor officiating, followed by a reception at the East Bay Firehall. For those unable to attend, livestreaming will be available and may be viewed by visiting the T.J. Tracey Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
