Born in Glace Bay on Feb.6, 1941, he was the son of the late Donald and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzy” (Turnbull) MacDonald. Jackie was a loving husband, proud father, devoted grandfather, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his daughter Valerie (Freddie) Wadden; two cherished granddaughters Tanya (Earl), Leah (Jason); four great-grandchildren who were truly the light of his life, Nadara, Liam, Jorja, Daniel and his fur baby, “papa's boy” Jaxon. He is also survived by his sister Linda (Myron) Morrison of Maramichi, brother Robert (Florence) of Stellarton, brother- in - law Jim Muck, Keith (Eileen) Oldford, Shane (Erva) Oldford, sister-in-law Janice Barrett, Judy MacDonald (Sheldon), Lori (Tom) Begalke, along with many nieces and nephews who will carry his memory with them always.
Jackie “Dad” was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years Karen, his brothers Phillip and Donnie (Greta); sisters, Lorraine (John), Alice (Nelson) and Betty.
Jackie spent most of his career with the Town of Glace Bay Public Works Water Department where he had a very rewarding and colorful career. The friendships developed over this time were strong and steady.
Dad grew up in MacKay's Corner where he formed a tight knit group of childhood friends, friendships that lasted a lifetime. Music was one of dad’s greatest joys.
He was a self-taught guitar player, loving nothing more than entertaining others. Many special moments were spent playing alongside his friends, fondly known as “The Four Corners.”
Thank you for the care and kindness given to Jackie “Papa” by the nursing staff of Three East at the Glace Bay Hospital. You are truly an inspirational team of professionals. We can not thank you enough for the excellent care you have given him.
To his niece, Lorna; thank you for your support and unconditional love, Your bright smile and positive outlook brought such comfort to him. You were often his anchor in difficult moments. We can't thank you enough for the love, strength and peace that you brought into his life.
BECAUSE LOVE LASTS FOREVER, THOSE WE LOVE ARE NEVER TRULY LOST.
