Gordon William Grant

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gordon William Grant on June 27th, 2026, in Glace Bay at the age of 71. Born in Glace Bay on September 8, 1954, Gordie was the son of the late Robert and Jean (Jillett) Grant.

Gordie was a proud graduate of the Cape Breton Regional Vocational School, class of 1974 studying Sheet Metal. He then worked his whole career at Hopkins Fisheries.

Gordie loved walking around his hometown of Glace Bay and wore out many sneakers in his travels to visit with family, friends and his dear friend Georgina. In summer he enjoyed spending time outdoors and he could often be found picking blueberries. When the weather was too bad for walking, he liked to watch sports games, especially baseball and hockey. He was particularly proud of his son Jonathan and grandson Quinton and loved hearing and talking about his grandson's hockey seasons.

He will be remembered as a kind and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Gordie is survived by his son, Jonathan (Kelsey) Turner, grandson Quinton Turner; his brothers, Bobby (Donna) Grant, Donnie (Colleen) Grant, and Todd (Tina) Grant; sisters, Shirley McNeil, Debi Billard, and Louann Grant (Wally Buckler); and his dear friend, Georgina Lynk; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Herbie McNeil, and Sandy Billard.

A burial service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 10 a.m., in Forest Haven Memorial Garden, Sydney.

Memorial donations in Gordie's memory may be made to the Glace Bay food bank.
