Geraldine McPhee, 89

Glace Bay, N.S.

May 10, 1937- June 18, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Geraldine McPhee on June 18, 2026, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Geraldine was the daughter of the late Richard and Annie Murphy (Martin).

In her early years Geraldine travelled many places across Canada including Toronto, British Colombia, and Newfoundland. She loved to share stories of her travels. Geraldine worked at the Sydney Airport and later retired from Sobeys in 1993, where she made lasting friendships. Mom enjoyed a cup of tea and a visit from lifelong friends Helen and Elaine. She was a strong-willed, hard-working, adventurous women who was always “ready to go” and loved to spend a Saturday shopping at Hudson’s Bay. She was a woman of many talents including sewing, knitting, and trying something new, but she was best known for her baking. All her family and friends looked forward to her Christmas baking every year.

Survived by her daughter Michelle Shibinette (Steven), granddaughter Robyn Shibinette and nephew, Richard Murphy (Raylene).

Besides her parents Geraldine was predeceased by the love of her life and husband Adrian McPhee. Her precious grandson “Nanny’s Boy,” Aaron; her three siblings; brother Lloyd and sisters Utah and Warna; and her loving companion, Ernie MacMillan.

A special thank you to homecare workers Judy and Valerie who provided such special care to Mom over the years; she thought of you both as great friends. The family would also like to extend a thank you to the Palliative Care Unit for keeping Mom comfortable in her final days.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 12-1 p.m., in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. (902)849-4199. Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with Fr. MacPhee presiding.
