Ernest (Ernie) Bernasky, 80 years old, of Sydney (formally of French Road), passed away Monday, June 15, 2026, surrounded by family.

Born Aug. 6, 1945, in Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Edna Bernasky.

Ernie enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a skilled woodsman and backyard mechanic . In his later years, he devoted much of his time to woodworking.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Karen (Walker) Bernasky, of 59 years; sons, Paul Bernasky and John Bernasky; daughters, Laurie (Bernasky) Steele, and Brenda Jack; brothers, Donnie and Jimmy Richardson; sisters, June Dassonville, Jane Doran, Sandra Richardson, and Carol Ley; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by eight sisters and five brothers.

The family would like to thank Harbourstone (Miners Lane) staff for the care and compassion shown to Ernie.

Donations in Ernie’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. A gathering of friends and family will take place at the funeral home on Friday, June 19, from 10:00 – 11: am with a service to follow in the chapel at 11:00, Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
