Surrounded by his three children and family, Bucky passed away peacefully on June 4th at the Cape Breton Regional hospital at the age of 68.

Left to carry on his memory are his eldest daughter Shavon (James) Whalen, Quispamsis; his twins James Eddy and Haley Eddy, Sydney; his Grandson Liam Whalen, Quispamsis; close friend and mother to James and Haley Joanie MacNeil, Sydney; and daughter by choice Jessica MacKinnon (Justin Roach) Alberta. Bucky also leaves behind his Mom Anna (Campbell) Eddy, Upper Tantallon; Several siblings, Murdena (Mike) Kolanko, Big Pond; Ruthanne Geddes, Glace Bay; Elaine (Donnie) Swartz, Coxheath; Cathy (Rev. Gene) Fisher, Sussex; Dr. Brian, Corner Brook; Valda (Tom) Walsh, Upper Tantallon; and Gerard (Sonya) Liverpool. He will also be remembered by his many nieces and nephews as the one and only ”Uncle Buck”.

Bucky was predeceased by his father Arnold E. Eddy, brother Wendell J Eddy, brother-in-law, Robert Geddes, and nephew Ben Geddes.

Born on January 30, 1958, to Arnold and Anna Eddy, the 4th of nine children, Arnold quickly gained the nickname Bucky. Being the first male after three daughters, his father was overcome with joy to have a buck in the family. Until his passing, if called Arnold, Bucky would respond, “that’s my father’s name, call me “Bucky”.

Bucky was a modest man of few words, deep feelings and solid conviction. If asked where his greatest pride lay, he wouldn’t mention gaining his linesman certificate, the numerous awards he won as a car salesman or his rewarding profession as a Continuing Care Assistant, he would say it was his three children.

Bucky deeply loved each of his children and his grandson. He enjoyed watching his only grandson, Liam, grow into a man hoping he had more time to teach him the art of photography. Bucky frequented many local and Maritime rinks cheering on James and Haley as they led their teams to numerous victories. When hockey season ended, he could often be found at the ballfield cheering from the stands or at a local horse barn helping Haley groom her horse and watching her ride. His love for dogs was part of who he was, often having more than one rescue dog in his keep. During his earlier years Bucky could be found in the outdoors with Shavon introducing her to the natural world he so loved. From picnics, to taking photos, to fishing, to bird watching and camping, Bucky was happiest feeling the breeze on his face, the smell of the earth, the sound of water and the sun in his eyes.

His commitment to his Mom was remarkable. Over the past few years, Upper Tantallon was a second home for Bucky where he made many trips to visit and care for his Mom. He even managed to FaceTime with her less than 24 hours before he passed. Bucky was a person who was deep in his faith. He watched Mass daily and connected with his Mom through text when it was time to offer Peace to others. His spiritual attributes helped Bucky accept his death with peace and courage. He often expressed thanks to his Palliative Care Team and family as they journeyed with him over the past several weeks.

Most people would say Bucky had a sense of humour that could lighten even the darkest room. You wouldn’t leave Bucky without having a laugh and sharing a memory of “the good old days”. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone, as he only saw the good in others and their actions.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Friends are welcome to visit and share stories on Wednesday, June 10 from 9-11am at the funeral home with a Service at 11am, followed by a short reception.
