Ernest 'Ernie' Daniel Roper Obituary
Ernest (Ernie) Roper, 80
Glace Bay, N.S.
We the family of Ernest (Ernie) Roper, 80, of Glace Bay, are broken-hearted to announce his passing on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at home. Born in Glace Bay, Ernie was the son of the late Donald and Anne (McIntyre) Roper.
Anyone that knew our father knew that his favorite time of year was lobster season. He enjoyed spending hours in his garage cooking lobster, snails, and would never turn down a nice feed of mussels. In the days before his passing, we find comfort in knowing that he was able to enjoy this season one last time.
Before his health began to decline, Ernie loved to drive his ATV, some of his best times were spent with his buddies, heading out on mud runs, charity drives, sharing laughs, and making memories. He enjoyed it even more when family members joined him.
Ernie was a dedicated heavy-duty machine operator working for the CBRM until his retirement. He took immense pride in his work and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. He will be remembered for his hard work, and the many friendships he made throughout his life.
Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Norma (Pyke); two sons: Kevin (Gwen), Ernie (Fran); two daughters: Karen (Bruce), Linda; a brother Doug (Brenda); twelve grandchildren: Nicole, Matthew, Taylor Lynn, Shondelle, Breanne, James, Brett, Curtis, Courtney, Logan, Ashley, and Renee and fourteen great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Along side his parents Donald and Anne, Ernie was predeceased by brothers Donnie and Wayne, and daughter Phyllis.
As per Ernie’s wishes there will be no visitation or service.
Memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities Atlantic.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. (902)849-4199.
