Anne Isabelle MacDonald (nee DeGaust) Obituary
Anne Isabelle MacDonald
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anne Isabelle MacDonald (nee DeGaust), a beloved wife, mother grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at the Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by the care and compassion of those who supported her in her final days. Anne was a resident of Taigh Na Mara in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.
Born in Dominion, Nova Scotia, Anne was the daughter of the late Archie DeGaust and Mary Catherine MacKenzie. Following the loss of her mother at a young age, she was lovingly raised by her father and stepmother, the late Dorothy Degaust.
Anne was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Parish, where her faith and dedication touched many lives. She was a valued member of the Catholic Women’s League, serving as former treasurer, a past member of the parish council, and a longtime member of the church choir. Her kindness, warmth, and quiet strength will be remembered by all who knew her.
Anne is lovingly survived by her children: Archie (Terry), Dolores (Mike), Karen, and daughter-in-law Carmen. She also leaves behind her cherished siblings: Andy (Jeanne), brother Benedict, Dorothy and Ellie, and brother-in-law Lou.
She was a proud and loving grandmother to Christine (Angelo), Dolores, Danny (Charlotte), Jennifer (Decker), Carl Jr., Katherine (Matthew), Christopher (Jenni), Alicia (Joe), Jimmy, Chenoa, Carissa (Nick) and she was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
Anne also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and who will forever treasure her memory.
Besides her parents and stepmother, Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charlie; her son, Jimmy; her brother Archie and his wife Sylvia; her sister Dolores and nephew David; and brothers-in-law Fred James and David Paquin.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of Taigh Na Mara and the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the kindness, comfort, and dignity shown to Anne and her family.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Parish, Dominion, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Dan Boudreau presiding. Luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall. The Funeral Mass for the late Anne Isabelle MacDonald will be Live-streamed on T.J. Tracey Facebook page.
