Paul Leslie Scallion Obituary

Paul Leslie Scallion, 78, of Bedford, NS, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 14, 2026 in Halifax, NS. Born with his identical twin brother David on January 4, 1948, Paul was the son of Thomas Scallion and Gertrude (Webber) Scallion of Halifax.

He attended Queen Elizabeth High School and in later years, St. Mary’s University. He worked diligently as a tax auditor for the province of Nova Scotia for three decades and spent time working in various regions of Nunavut.

Paul was known for his kindness and generosity to everyone who knew him or came in contact with him. He enjoyed watching his New England Patriots and Toronto Blue Jays. Paul was meticulous with his van and took great pride in being a homeowner. He was clean and tidy, organized and efficient in everything he did. He loved playing games on his computer, having a game of cards with Buddy, and listening to his favorite songs.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Janet (Malloy) Scallion and two daughters, Tanya (Matthew) Earle and Julie (Michael) Burke. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Lucy Burke, Deacon Earle, Grady Earle, Ollie Burke, Nolan Earle, and Carys Earle. Paul was a wonderful husband, father, and Grampy, and he will be sorely missed.

He was one of seven siblings and is survived by his twin brother David (Gloria) Scallion, brother Gerald (Lena) Scallion, and sister Nancy (Robert) Savary. Paul was predeceased by his parents, his brother Teddy (Kathy) Scallion, his sisters Eva (Eric) Noftle and Barbara (Bob) Jones, as well as his infant nephew Scott and niece Paula, who was named after her Uncle Paul. His many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends will miss his presence greatly.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the many health care workers who helped Paul during his journey with Parkinson’s disease and his subsequent illnesses. Thank you to brother David for being there at a moment’s notice when help was needed, all paramedics who came to Paul’s home, Nova Scotia Continuing Care, Closing the Gap care worker Mayu, Dr. Alison Dixon, Nurse MacKenzie from 4.1, staff of V3East, Dr. Ripley from 9B VG, staff of West Bedford Transitional Care, Dr. Adam Park from Emergency, and Nurse Kiersten on 7.2 for her compassionate care of Paul on his last day.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held in the Sackville Legion on July 3, 2026 from 1pm-4pm, 45 Sackville Cross Rd, Lower Sackville, for his family and friends. Donations may be made to the donate.parkinson.ca website.
