Kelly Marie (Steele) Odo Obituary
Kelly Marie Odo (née Steele), 62
Reserve Mines, N.S.
Kelly Marie Odo (née Steele), born October 31, 1963, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Kelly was the beloved daughter of Allen Steele (devoted partner of Mary Beaton) and the late Diane Donnovan (September 25, 2011).
She was the loving wife of James Martin Odo, whom she married on July 28, 1990. Together, they built a life centred on family and love. Kelly was a devoted mother to Ginny McKinnon (mother to Kallie-Ray McKinnon and Eden Lynn McKinnon), Jammie-Lee Odo (mother to Brooke Marie Odo and Elizabeth Grace Odo), Kelly Marie Gray (married to Jordan Gray, mother to Emilie Jordyn Gray), and William James Odo (fiancé Ravin Woods, father to Nova, Noelle, and Amaya Odo), and her estranged son Tylor McKinnon (father to Alexa Grace McKinnon and Damon McKinnon); Kelly also leaves to mourn her brother, Allen Blair Steele, and sisters, Edna Lee-Lewis and Catherine McDonald.
Alongside her mom, Kelly was predeceased by her sisters, Sally Steele (March 1, 2008) and Kimberly Steele (March 10, 2008).
Kelly shared a lifelong bond with her dear friend Laurie McDonald, who was more like a sister to her than a friend, a relationship built on love, loyalty, and years of shared memories.
Kelly lived her life for her children and grandchildren, who were her greatest pride and joy. Whether she was working as a cook, baking, or in a call centre, her heart was always with her family.
She found happiness in life’s simple moments, especially a good cup of tea (always Tetley or Tim Hortons), quiet mornings with the news, and treasured tea parties with her granddaughters.
Kelly will be remembered for her kind and caring demeanour, always putting others before herself. She was a constant source of love and support, never hesitating to be there when her family needed her most. She devoted herself to caring for her sister during her battle with cancer and later for her mother, showing unwavering strength, compassion, and selflessness.
Her legacy is one of love, sacrifice, and deep devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
As per her wishes, Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 1-2 p.m., with a Memorial Service to follow at 2 p.m., with Rev. Sheldon Chant presiding, all in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at the Dominion Community Hawks Club, 28 Lower Mitchell Avenue, Dominion, N.S.
