Thomas (Tom) Richard Ellsworth Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Richard Ellsworth, 63

Gardiner Mines/Dominio, N.S.

Thomas Richard Ellsworth passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 7, at the age of 63.

Born on April 20, 1963, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Tommy grew up in Dominion and later made his home in Gardiner Mines. He was known as a hardworking man with a funny sense of humour that those who knew him appreciated. He was fiercely loyal to those he cared about. He stood up for what he believed to be right. Although he could be stubborn and a little hard on the head, he made sure you knew he was willing to help those he loved in any way possible.

Tommy worked at Mazzocca’s Garage early in life and most recently worked in Grande Prairie, Alberta with Wapiti Gravel Suppliers as a truck driver. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Dominion Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years. He loved his time with DVFD, excelling in his position as Captain. He was always willing to help others with fearless dedication.

Known as a jack of all trades, Tommy always enjoyed renovating the various houses he owned throughout his life, with no job being too big or too small. He also loved working on vehicles and could often be found changing brakes or replacing engines. He was a capable man.

Tommy was predeceased by his parents, Richie and Genni Ellsworth; his brother Dougie Ellsworth; and his sister, Sharon O’Brien, with whom he shared a special bond.

He will be fondly remembered by his best friend, John Lynk. They would frequently be seen together drinking tea and socializing with the regulars at local restaurants. His loyal dog, Jager, was never far behind. His next-door neighbours, the Wards (Darrell, Darlene, Zach and Cody), didn’t just share a driveway, they also shared many meals, stories and great times with Tommy and held a special place in his heart.

For those who were lucky enough to be close to Tommy and to know him for the person he truly was, you would agree whole heartedly he had a positive effect on your life, and he won’t soon be forgotten.

Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Family Funeral Home, Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. As per Tommy’s wishes, there will be a private graveside service with a few close friends and family members at a later date.
