Cathy Day Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Cathy Day. While we all expected to have many more years of her sharp wit and spirited guidance, Cathy’s heart finally decided it had clocked enough overtime. Following a major surgery, she fought hard for a comeback, but her heart was simply ready for its well-earned rest.
Cathy was never one for a quiet life. Her resume read like a "Choose Your Own Adventure" novel, and she tackled every chapter with grit and her signature flair. Over the years, she wore many hats, she worked as both a youth caretaker and a prison guard. As her daughters can attest, those two roles likely required the exact same balance of infinite patience and a very clear "don’t mess with me" energy.
She also spent many years as a cake decorator. She later transitioned to life as a flagger with Lafarge Canada and eventually wrapped up her long working career at Scotia Recycling—finally deciding it was time to let others sort through the mess.
Mom had an unforgettable sense of humor and her unwavering backbone. She stood firm in her convictions; if you found yourself on the wrong side of her principles, you were certainly going to hear about it. She didn't just have opinions; she had truths, and she delivered them with a fire that was uniquely hers.
Despite her many titles, her favorite role was the one she performed with the most heart: caretaker for our family. She was the rock for our father during his illness, standing fiercely by his side and providing everything he needed. Whenever we were sick or hurting, Mom was there with a comfort that only she could provide. After a lifetime of her looking after us, it was an honor for us to be by her side, caring for her and returning that same love throughout her final months.
Cathy is reunited now with her husband, George, and her dear sister, Shirley. She leaves behind her daughters, Mel and Daisy (Nicholas), and the light of her life, her granddaughter, Eloise.
Mom, we will miss your laugh, your fire, and the fierce way you loved us. You were the heart of our home, and while that heart has stopped beating, the love you poured into us never will.
