Sylvia Whyte, 83, of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at Seaview Manor, the very place she dedicated many years of her life to caring for others.

Sylvia was one of seventeen children born in Glace Bay, NS, to the late Mae (Dearing) and Silas Cole. After marrying the love of her life, Roddie Whyte, in 1963 following his enlistment in the Canadian Navy, she embarked on a journey that saw her live in various communities, including Dartmouth, Digby, Cornwallis, Halifax, Sydney, New Brunswick, and PEI. She and Roddie finally settled back in their beloved hometown of Glace Bay in 1985.

Over the years, Sylvia held several jobs, including work at the local fish plant, various positions in the grocery industry, and in the service industry at the Abbey Lane in Halifax. However, her true passion and favorite role was as a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) at Seaview Manor, where she worked for 16 years, pouring her heart into her care for the residents.

Sylvia possessed a fun-loving spirit. She loved a lively time, whether she was going to dances at the Branch 3 Legion, enjoying a trip to the casino with her sisters, or working on her crochet projects. She always had a dog by her side to keep her company and to spoil. Her greatest joy was her family; she treasured hanging out with her sisters and spending countless hours with her nieces, nephews, and their children. She especially loved traveling to Halifax to visit her children and grandchildren.

Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roddie Whyte, her parents Mae (Dearing) and Silas Cole, four sisters, and six brothers.

She is survived by her loving children, daughter Diane, and son Rod (Tracey); her cherished grandchildren, Jami Lee and John; her sisters, Julia, Jenny (Charlie), Linda, and Susan (Willie); and her brothers, Harold (Agnes) and Arthur.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at T. J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. (902-849-4199) from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate presiding. Reception to be held following service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
