Elaine Robson Obituary
In January 2021, Elaine (Wade) Robson, was given six months to live. On January 11th, 2026, she felt she had finally proved her point that no one would tell her what was what.
It is impossible to write about Elaine without also including her husband, Joseph Wayne Robson, who passed away May, 17th 2024. Their love began in August of 1969 when Wayne saw a beautiful young Englishwoman sunbathing in his neighbour’s backyard. In that moment Wayne declared “I’m going to marry her”. In January of 1970 his prediction came true, and from that moment on, these two incredible people shared a lifetime of hopes, dreams and sorrows while never leaving each other’s sides.
Elaine made her global debut on February 18th, 1951. Daughter of Joan (Sellens) and James Wade, she grew up in Hastings, Sussex, where she excelled academically and even competed on the BBC quiz show “Top of the Form”. Elaine loved the Beatles (Paul was her favorite), rock candy and Airedale Terriers; all passions that she brought with her to Canada when she arrived in 1970.
Elaine was a triple threat; she was a career employee with Scotiabank by day, a mother to two “too smart for their own good” children by night and a 24-hour grounding presence to her effervescent spouse and all of his grand ideas.
Elaine was an only child, but she did find care and kindness through the extended family that Wayne brought into their marriage. William Marlin Robson (father in-law), Annie Mae (Farrell) (Mother-in-law) and all of Wayne’s siblings; Ruth (John) MacKenzie, Isabelle (Gerald) Cole, Lillian (Bob) Price, Raymond (Susan) Robson, Glenda (Eddie) Sullivan, and Lynn (Steven) Mitchell. Stories of all shapes and sizes live in the hearts of those mentioned, and if you ask them nicely, they will gladly share them with you.
Later in life Elaine travelled back across the pond to connect with her aunt, uncle, and cousins. She cherished the time she got to spend with Uncle Roy, Aunt Tilly, Philip Wade, and so many others in Foulsham and around Norwich. Elaine was so happy to be able to stay in touch with them all via Skype.
Elaine and Wayne’s legacy to this world is carried on through their children, Ian (Heather) and Christina (Darryl) and their grandchildren; Oliver Warren, Henry Robson, and George Robson. They will carry forward the best parts Elaine and Wayne; the responsibility to stand up for those who need help, the commitment to always question authority and the promise that if they ever do cheer for a hockey team that is not the Montreal Canadians, it will never be the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Elaine’s family would like to give their most heartfelt thanks to the amazing folks at Oakwood Terrace, especially those in Unit A. You were Elaine’s family for the last leg of her journey and your commitment to her care was beyond measure.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists. There will be no service or visitation as per Elaine and Wayne’s wishes; but if you would like to honour them, give some money to Feed Nova Scotia (they volunteered there), go to your next city hall meeting and speak passionately about something dear to you, or adopt some poor pitiful stray animal and spoil it to the point of absurdity. Bonus points if you do all 3.
