It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Douglas Francis. Stephen was the cherished son of the late Douglas and Ingeborg Francis. Stephen leaves behind his loving Stepmom, Gerri Oickle, stepbrother, Ronald Boal, and many cousins. Stephen was also predeceased by his sister, Susan Martha and stepbrother, Scott Boal.

Stephen was born in Pembroke OT, June 20, 1963 and lived at military bases all over Canada with his parents before they settled in Smiths Cove, NS. Steven loved being with people, going to dances, enjoying the outdoors and living life with his dad and stepmom. He attended school in Calgary AB and an adult workshop in Digby NS.

Stephen moved to Sydney under the care of Resi-Care (C.B.) Association in 2009 and continued his love of life.

Stephen never missed a chance to sing karaoke, attend a dance or go to a party. Anyone that walked into his home was welcomed with a hug from Stephen. He loved having people visit. Stephen will be sadly missed by all of his Resi- Care family; especially his housemates and counsellors.

Stephen was a longtime participant of Horizon Achievement Center and Special Olympics and enjoyed attending all social gatherings. He will be missed by all who knew him.

We would like to thank Resi-Care for their care of Stephen over the years. We would also like to thank the ER staff and Palliative care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, 902-539-7175. A celebration of life will take place at the funeral home on Friday April 24, 2026; visitation 2-3pm, Service at 3pm.

A graveside service will be held at Smiths Cove, NS at a later date where Stephen will be laid to rest with his Mom and Dad.
