Douglas Leonard Hill Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Leonard Hill, who died peacefully at the QEII on April 9, 2026, with family by his side.
Born on October 9, 1932, in Kentville, NS, and raised in Centre Rawdon, he was the son of the late Leonard and Bernice (MacInnis) Hill.
Doug spent his career in the roadbuilding industry, beginning in 1951 with Municipal Spraying and Contracting and eventually retiring from Ocean Contractors in 1989. Doug also spent many summers harvesting wild blueberries and employing a lot of local youth.
A faithful member of the United Church, Doug served on several committees and found joy in a curling club for many years in Windsor, NS. He also dedicated many years to volunteering at Beacon House, where he built lasting friendships and famously brought home countless "treasures."
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Rena (Cosnick), who provided devoted care for him until the very end. He is also survived by his sons, Ken (Lynn), and Stephen (Michelle); stepdaughter, Carla (Butch); and grandchildren, Hannah and Ryan Hill, Chris Purcell (Joel & Jada), and Jenny LaPierre (Logan, Asher, Mayleigh & Luna).
He was predeceased by his sisters, Hazel MacLellan, Kaye Turner, and Marge MacKenzie; as well as a special great-grandson, Grayson Purcell.
Visitation will be held at Bedford United Church on Wednesday April 15th at 10:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bedford United Church in Doug’s memory.
