Joseph Anthony "Tony" Doucette Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of Joseph Anthony (Tony) Doucette, age 77, Bridgeport, on Friday, March 28, 2026, at Victoria Haven Nursing Home. Born in Glace Bay, Tony was the son of the late Victor and Thelma (Bresson) Doucette.

Tony was a retired and proud coal miner, who loved telling stories about his pit days. He was a member of the Police Boys and Girls Club; Branch 78 Legion; Colliery Bowling League; and was a former leader of the Scouts of Canada. He enjoyed Tim Horton’s coffee, was an antique car enthusiast, and was the world’s biggest Elvis fan. He provided many years of joy to families and their pets while sitting in for Santa Claus at the Mayflower Mall. Tony’s five grandchildren were the joy of his life, and he spent many hours with them in playgrounds and parks, and reading them many stories, forever saying “Just one more” when the kids knew could be stretched into several more.

He is survived by his wife, Gail (Campbell) of 52 years; son, Anthony “Ryan” Doucette, Glace Bay; daughter, Neila (Tom Lockman) Doucette, Glace Bay; brothers, Gerard Doucette, Halifax, Patty (Maggie) Doucette, Rochester, NY; sister, Theresa Doucette, Glace Bay; and his five grandchildren, Cameron, Avery, Liam, Madelyn, and Scar(let). Tony also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Virginia (the late Bob) Crane, Sydney, Alecia (Pete) Brand, Beaver Bank, NS, Sherry (Ken) MacAulay, Truro, NS; brothers-in-law, Blaine (Leanne) Campbell and Lowell Campbell, all of Calgary, and Wade (Margaret) Campbell, New Brunswick.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Alex, and mother in-law, Ann; maternal and paternal grandparents; and sisters, Catherine and Mary.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 8, at 2 pm, Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating.

Donations in Tony’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Society of Cape Breton or to your choice of school Breakfast Programs.

Special thank you to the staff of Victoria Haven Nursing Home for all the care and support they provided to Tony over the past two ½ years. Another special thank you to longtime family friend, Michele MacLellan, for her assistance and support in making Tony’s arrangements.

When God was making

Husbands, as far as I can see,

He made a special soulmate

Especially for me.

He made a perfect

Gentleman, compassionate

And kind, with more love

And affection than you could

Ever wish to find.

He gave my darling

Husband, a heart

Of solid gold.

He gave me wonderful

Memories, only my

Heart can hold.

I think about you always,

And talk about you too.

I have such lovely memories,

But I wish I still had you.
