Sonja Kathleen Reid Obituary

A faithful servant of the Lord and a long-time parishioner at St Joseph’s Church in Shad Bay and later at St Thomas Aquinas & Canadian Martyrs Church in Halifax, she lived a life centered on faith, service and love for her family. She passed away peacefully at the VG QEII Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, on Friday March 20, 2026.

Kathleen was born Sept 7, 1939, in Halifax, to the late John and Mary Louise Reid. She was the 4th youngest of 10 children, eight preceded her in death. She was departed before by her beloved son Cash Colp and her long-life partner Charles Colp. Her family ancestry came from Newfoundland where she visited on occasion. In the early years of her married life, Kathleen was a foster mother to many babies and children whom always held a especial place in her heart. Her working life was centered in the retail business; she loved working at Sears, Lotto Booth, Walmart, Dollarama and caring for elderly people. After retirement she did volunteer work with the QEII-Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital helping people to attend Mass services and to provide company. She loved working in the Church, serving in committees, always enjoying helping others and cherished praising the Lord. Kathleen loved to read her Bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family, especially her grand and great grandchildren whom she adored. She was also thrilled with the recent news of twin great granddaughters arriving in late spring and always kept in touch with her nieces, nephews and provided support to her extended family. She deeply cared for others and the less fortunate.

Kathleen leaves to cherish her loving memory, her sons, Stephen Colp (Patricia), Darrin Colp (Tracey); daughter, Rosemarie Peters; grandchildren, Crystal, Fernando (Nicole Wotton), Madisen (David McKinnon) and Grace; greatgrandchildren, Kyle, Ivy, River and Violet; sister, Fay Cunnigham and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at both QEII Hospitals and the palliative care unit, for their work and care with the patients and their families.

Also, especial heartfelt thanks to the parishioners at St Joshep’s and Sandra Jeffreys for her unwavering spiritual support and friendship to Kathleen in her final days; the hospital chaplains and Father John for providing the bedside prayers and religious support to all of us and to all her friends and staff from Northwood Terrace where she lived.
