Shirley Elaine Wadman Obituary
It is with broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Elaine Wadman, 85, Glace Bay, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at her home.
Born in Glace Bay, Mum was the daughter of the late James and Martha (Mattie) MacDougall (nee Anderson).
She was a well-known seamstress making many bridesmaid, wedding, and graduation dresses. Mum had also been a volunteer for many years at Seaview Manor with The Friends of the Manor. Her greatest joy though was following her grandson, Sébastien’s, latest achievements.
Mum is survived by her husband, Gerald (Jerry), of 65 years. They enjoyed many years in the “woods” watching the birds and tending to their beautiful gardens. She is also survived by her daughter, Linda LeFort (Yvon), grandson, Sébastien; son, Keith (Clara), grandson, Ross (Courtney); and great-grandchildren, Tanner and Parker. Mum is also survived by her sister, Lois Birchenough, Oakville, Ontario; brother, Brian MacDougall (Andrea), Kempt Head; and sister-in-law, Marilyn MacDougall, Dominion. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Larry West and Glenn Wadman; and sister-in-law, Lois Ferguson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mum will also be deeply missed by dear friends, Ollie Canning as well as Jim and Dot Munden. Also sharing our loss are the wonderful angels who cared for Mum like she was their own; Jeannette, Cathy, Joanne, Danielle, Evelyn, Wendy, Wanda, Sheila and Cecilia.
She was predeceased by her brother, James (Jimmy); sister, Eileen; mother-in-law, Audrey Marion Wadman (nee MacDonald); father-in-law, Edward Wadman; sister-in-law, Ruth West; brothers-in-law, Art Birchenough, Ed Thomson, John Ferguson, and nephew, Eric MacDougall.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, 902-849-4199. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
Memorials in Mum’s memory may be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care or the Cape Breton Cancer Society. Our family want to thank Mum’s oncologist, Dr. Lucas and his team of nurses for the wonderful care she received as a patient. Thank you also to Brett Gillis and Dr. Burns from palliative care for the attention shown to mum and us. Our family also recognizes the special care shown by Drs. Gallivan and MacDonell to our mother.
