It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ruthann (Black) Jessome. Ruthann, aged 58, of Sydney, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Victoria, British Columbia, she was the daughter of Ronald and Ruth (Edmunds) Black.

Ruthann was known for her beautiful smile and unwavering kindness. Ruthann’s loving and caring personality was amplified by her work as a Continuing Care Assistant with the County Homemakers Agency for many years. Ruthann was a loving and dedicated partner, daughter, mother, Nana, and friend to all in need.

Ruthann is survived by her mother, Ruth Black and leaves behind her loving children, Andrew Powell (Daria Borovitsky), Kimberly Powell (Jeremy Dove), and her children’s father, Doug Powell. Ruthann is survived by her pride and joy, her grandson, Drew, and granddaughter, Tessa.

Ruthann is survived by her loving and dedicated partner of many years, Julien Martin, his son, Alan Fraser, and grandson, Aden Kaarto. She leaves behind her two brothers, Stephen, and his daughter Shuana, and Trevor (Carmen), and his son TJ.

Ruthann is predeceased by her father, Ronald Black and various extended family members and friends.

Cremation has taken place under the care and protection of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. In honoring Ruthann’s wishes, a private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
