Richard Wayne Morash Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Richard Wayne Morash of Glen Margaret. Richard passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 78. A man of quiet strength and immense character, he leaves behind a legacy defined by loyalty, meticulous craftsmanship, and an expansive, enduring love for his family.
A lifelong resident of Glen Margaret, Richard was the son of the late, Doug and Edie (Holland) Morash. He loved breathing in the salt air of St. Margaret’s Bay. For 59 years, Richard and his beloved wife, Lorna (née Ryan), were inseparable; they did everything together, building a life of shared dreams and deep devotion. Together, they established their roots atop a hill overlooking the Bay, where Richard built the family home with his own two hands - a sanctuary where he and Lorna spent decades watching the sunsets side-by-side.
Professionally, Richard was the owner of Richard Morash Painting Inc. He was far more than a tradesman; he was a meticulous craftsman who took quiet pride in every stroke of the brush. While he was well-known for his work in private homes, his skill was also sought after for large-scale projects under Black Diamond Builders. His tireless work ethic was legendary; he finally retired following the start of the 2020 pandemic at the age of 72. For many years, he shared this dedication and camaraderie with his nephew, Phillip Morash, who worked faithfully alongside him.
Richard’s soul was rooted in the outdoors, but those experiences were always better when shared with Lorna and his family. Whether he was on the water with a fishing rod, tending his vegetable garden, feeding the wildlife in his backyard, or visiting with his fishermen friends to pick up lobsters for a family feast, he moved through life with a gentle spirit. At home, he was the heart of the kitchen, finding joy in cooking and filling the room with laughter. He famously had a "pocketful of nicknames" for those he held dear - a small but constant reflection of his affection.
As a father, Richard was the steady hand his daughters, Robyn and Colleen, could always reach for. He was an unwavering cornerstone of their lives, always working to support them in any way he could. Whether it was a major renovation or a small repair, Richard never hesitated to lend his expertise, teaching his girls by example how to build things - and relationships - that last.
His legacy of kindness lives on through his wife, Lorna; his daughters, Robyn (Derek) Alemán of Florida, and Colleen (Dennis) Doucet of Stillwater Lake; his cherished grandsons, Jack and Ian Doucet, who proudly called him “Grandfather”; and his great-grandson, Carter (Jack and Mikayla). He is also survived by his brother, Dougie (Joan) Morash; and his sister, Lynn (Francis) MacLellan.
Richard was predeceased by his brothers, Ronnie, Jerry, and David; and his sister, Joan.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Parkstone Enhanced Care (McNabs Unit) for the compassionate care provided to Richard over the past several months.
Richard will be remembered for his selfless willingness to help anyone in need and for the simple, profound beauty of a life lived in total devotion to those he loved. He was our anchor, and his strength will remain with us always. We will love you forever, Daddy.
Cremation has taken place. A private burial service will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Hackett's Cove at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Richard’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
