Tona Lisa Mills of Halifax, age 53, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Throughout Tona’s life, her charismatic and affable nature allowed her to effortlessly foster lasting friendships, which made those close to her feel valued and appreciated. Her quick wit, warm humor, and deep empathy shone through in her daily interactions, reflected in her facility to make others smile and laugh. Beyond her remarkable intelligence and spark, Tona embodied true strength and resilience – no matter the magnitude of the challenges she faced, she met them with steady courage and unwavering determination to prevail.

Tona loved her family deeply and reciprocated the affection, support, and kindness they unfailingly showed her. Their encouragement gave her strength, their love instilled confidence, and their presence fueled her determination to overcome obstacles others might deem insurmountable. The courage and grace with which she faced adversity were nothing short of extraordinary.

A number of people crossed Tona’s path at critical junctures to help her navigate particularly trying moments. The family would like to thank Kim Pate, whose tireless advocacy made a profound difference in Tona’s life, as well as acknowledge the contributions of the Elizabeth Fry Society, the assistance of the Metro Community Housing Association, the clinical excellence of the QEII Cancer Center, and the compassionate support of the QEII Palliative Care Team.

In her final moments, she was surrounded by loved ones whose lives were forever shaped by her presence. She is survived by her devoted mother and father (Helen and Rick), her loving sister and brother-in-law (Gina and Kevin), and her cherished nephew and niece (Cole and Carly), all of whom brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

Her light, laughter, and love will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her.
