Dwayne Eric Smith Obituary

With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of Dwayne Eric Smith, on Monday, February 23, 2026 at his home in Halifax. Dwayne passed away from complications with COPD. Halifax was his home for many years with his longtime common-law wife, Beatrice Hiles.


Dwayne was the son of the late Ada Mae Jarvis of Yarmouth, and the late Melvin Earl Smith of Cape Sable Island, NS.


He is survived by his daughters; Lolita Heighton, Halifax, Geneva MacLachlan, Dartmouth, Joy MacLachlan, Halifax; son, Nicholas Robinson, Halifax; siblings, Virgil (DeeDee) Jarvis, Mahone Bay, Valerie (John) Wiseman, Dartmouth, Craig (Colleen) Smith, Cape Breton, Melvin Smith, Dartmouth, Julie Hudgson, Spryfield, Calvin Smith, Port Au Port, NL, Rosalie (Greg) Young, Port Au Port, and Crystal (Larry) Peek, Falmouth; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.


Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Millard Smith, Sudbury.


Dwayne worked in the fishing industry. He loved sports and played hockey in his youth and enjoyed watching a good wrestling game. He loved his children and tried to spend as much time with them and their families as he could, always looking out for them, he wanted to protect them the best way he knew how. He absolutely loved all of us.

Dwayne loved to be social and enjoyed people, usually calling everyone Cuz or Son. Telling stories about past and present, Dwayne laughed a lot and enjoyed his times with his friends.


Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville. A Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 1pm.
