Florence May MacLeod Obituary

With heavy hearts and immense love, we announce the passing of our dear aunt Florence MacLeod on February 13, 2026, at the age of 92. A woman of deep faith and devotion, Florence passed away following a brief illness, with family by her side.

Born on the family farm on Grand Lake Road, Florence was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Mary Ann (Doolan) MacLeod. A lifelong resident of the area, she eventually made her home on Doolan’s Lane, where her door was always open and the teapot was always on. In her early career, Florence worked as a hairdresser, a profession she truly loved. It allowed her to combine her talent for creating beauty with her natural gift for conversation and community connection.

Beyond her career, she was famous within the family for her exceptional baking—most notably her legendary pork pies, which were the centerpiece of every family gathering. Though she never married, Florence’s life was defined by an extraordinary devotion to her family. She was a cornerstone in the lives of her parents, siblings, and the many generations that followed. Her home was a sanctuary of laughter, stories, and genuine care. She lived for family outings, visits, and celebrations, remaining an active and loving presence in the lives of her extended family until her final days. Aunnie Flo, as she was affectionately known, always had the best hugs, treats and brush to do those Elsa Braids.

She is survived by her nine nieces and six nephews, including her "special" niece, Mary (Graham) Passerini and nephew Terry (Lynette) MacLeod, both of whom lived with her over the years and held a cherished place in her heart. She was also like a second mom to Alexander and Johnathan who will miss her deeply. That legacy continues through many great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Eva MacLeod, as well as her special cousin, Leo (Joan) MacLeod. She looked so forward to their weekly Friday phone calls from BC.

Florence was predeceased by her parents; her beloved sister and best friend, Mary "Sis" (Greg) McNeil; her brothers, Murray, Cletus, Danny, and Malcolm; her sister-in-law, Cathy; and her grandniece, Erin.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Unit 4A, for the compassionate care provided during her illness.

Florence was a faithful member of both Saint Augustine’s Parish and St. Theresa’s Parish. Following Florence’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18th at the funeral home, reception to follow.
