Karen Pauline (Rowe) MacLeod, 68
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with very heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Karen Pauline Rowe MacLeod, 68, on February 20th, 2026. Karen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend. She passed away peacefully at Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by those she loved the most.
Karen is predeceased by many family members including her father, Harold Rowe and her grandmother, Lillian Seymour.
She is survived by her beloved husband of almost 30 years, David MacLeod; her mother, Harriett Rowe; her daughter Lori (Chris); her sons Jason (Tanessa) and Allen (Jess); her stepdaughters Kailyn (Chris), and Kendra (Brandon); her stepsons Darrell (Lindsay), David (Holly), and Chris (Lorena); mother-in-law Yvonne MacLeod; along with her cherished grandchildren, sisters, brother, extended family, many dear friends, and work family.
Karen spent her earlier years working at Mary Joe's Fish and Chips, an iconic restaurant in Glace Bay, where she made some lifelong friendships.
Most recently, she was a dedicated employee of Stream / Convergys / Concentrix for 16 years, where she built not only a career but many lasting friendships. Her work family meant so much to her, and the bonds she formed there carried well beyond the workplace.
In 1998, Karen married the love of her life, David. For 28 years, they were true partners in every aspect, facing life’s joys and challenges hand in hand and supporting one another through every season. Together, they built a family grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering loyalty. They were each other’s best friend, partner in crime, and safe place.
Karen was always David's passenger - his ride or die. They were both members of the Cape Breton Antique Car Club and had several antique cars over the years. The most recent being the Oldsmobile and they loved nothing more than getting in the car together and going for long drives, music playing and windows down, talking about everything and nothing. Those quiet miles side by side were some of her happiest moments - simply being together wherever the road would take them. She treasured the laughter she shared with David and his antagonizing jokes that she secretly loved so much.
Karen was the proud mother of three and a devoted stepmother, lovingly known as “Bonus Mom” to five more. Her children were the center of her world. She took immense pride in their accomplishments, their character, and the lives they created. Being a grandmother to her sixteen grandchildren was truly one of the highlights of her life and biggest joys. She carried that title so proudly with deep love and gratitude. Her grandchildren were treasures to her.
Karen enjoyed the simple things in life - crafts, crocheting, catching up with her besties whether it was an ice cream, tea, or supper date, shopping trips with her girls and cozy evenings with her mom watching their favourite tv shows. She had a playful understanding in her marriage: as long as car parts were coming in, a new purse wasn’t far behind. It was all part of the laughter and balance she and David shared.
Karen was kind without being weak, generous without keeping score, and outspoken in a way that made you listen. She believed fiercely in honesty, loyalty, and protecting the people she loved, and she was not afraid to stand up for what she believed in. If you were in her circle, you knew it and you felt it.
Karen had a special bond with everyone in her life, but nothing could compare to the one she shared with her girls, Taylor and Alyssa. The many adventures they shared over the years were countless sources of happiness and will be lasting memories imprinted on their hearts forever.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the incredible staff at Glace Bay General Hospital for the compassion, kindness, laughter, and exceptional care they provided during Karen’s final weeks. Their support meant more than words can express and brought comfort to both Karen and her family during a difficult time.
She leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
