Denise Yvonne Battson Obituary
Denise Yvonne Battson of Lower Sackville passed away on February 5, 2026, at Parkland at the Lakes in Dartmouth.
Denise was born in Loretteville, Quebec. She was the youngest child of Wilfred and May Darveau. After spending several years as a server at the famous Kerhulu restaurant in Quebec City, she joined Bell Canada as a telephone operator. While there, she learned English to become an international operator. This led her to Frobisher Bay, Northwest Territories (now Iqaluit, Nunavut), where she met her future husband, Mike.
They welcomed their only son, Michael, while in Iqaluit. Mike’s work as a federal civil servant led to a move to the Atlantic Provinces in 1971. They first moved to Summerside, Prince Edward Island, then Gander, Newfoundland, and finally to Nova Scotia.
Denise enjoyed dancing, playing cards, darts, bowling, and the company of her many friends.
She is survived by her sister, Monique MacKinnon (Toronto), her son Michael, granddaughters, Elise and Abigail Battson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, four of her five siblings, and her daughter-in-law, Marlene.
Thank you to Dr. Cindy Marshall for her many years of care and kindness, as well as to Dr. Colin Hebb for the care he provided during the last two years. A thank you is also extended to the staff of Lewis Hall Alderney at Parkland.
We were very fortunate to have her as a mother and grandmother.
A service will be held at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville, at 11 am on Thursday, February 26.
