Sheila Burke Obituary

Sheila Burke, 67

Glace Bay, N.S.

With her family close and love all around her, Sheila Burke passed away peacefully in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Monday, February 9, 2026. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, proud “Nanny 2mas”, and beloved aunt.

Born in Glace Bay, Sheila was the beloved daughter of the late Phon and Lou (Walsh) O’Brien. Sheila was predeceased by her devoted husband Michael Burke. Though deeply missed, he was never from her heart, and she is now lovingly reunited with him.

Sheila leaves behind her son, Pikie (Laura Lee), who was truly the pride and joy of her life. From the very beginning, she was his biggest fan in everything he did, standing by his side with unwavering love, encouragement, and pride through every chapter of his life. Pikie’s better half, Laura Lee, became the daughter Sheila never had and was loved deeply as one of her own.

Sheila is also lovingly remembered by her two cherished grandchildren, Blake and Brody, who brought endless joy, laughter, and love into her life. Anyone who knew Sheila knew just how deeply she adored them and how proudly she spoke of their accomplishments.

Between hockey rinks, baseball fields, and many random Bingo Halls, you never knew where you might run into Sheila--- but wherever she was, her big smile wasn’t far behind. Sheila’s kitchen table was a gathering place, always open to nieces and nephews who knew they could stop by at anytime for a good chat, a laugh, and a listening ear.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Sheila will remember her warmth, her laughter, and her love for her family. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she has touched and the countless memories she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Sheila is also survived her eight siblings, who we are so thankful for, they did not leave their sister’s side throughout her entire illness and Pikie is and will be forever grateful for having such devoted aunts and uncles, he truly feels blessed. Sheila is survived by her four loving brothers: Jack (Nancy), Wayne (Martha), Mickie, and Lloyd (Sam); four loving and devoted sisters: Marie, Donna (Marty), Vera (Joe), and Paula (Johnnie); as well as her best friend Velma McNeil; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Sheila was predeceased by sisters Patsy and Annette; brothers Tommy, Phonsie, and Kevin.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a Memorial Service to follow at 12 p.m., in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. (902)849-4199.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit or the Cancer Center of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Special thank you to Dr. Lamey, Dr. Lapierre, the Palliative Care Unit, CBRH, 4E, 3A, the Cancer Center, and all who cared for Sheila over the years.
