It is with broken hearts, we the family, announce the passing of John Raymond Cusack (Johnny), age 77, of Coxheath, Nova Scotia, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Johnny was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and was predeceased by his father, John (Jack) Cusack; mother, Joan Eileen ( Fisher) Cusack; sister, Carol Anne Anthony; father-in law, Ches Landry; and mother-in-law, Lucy (Meunier) Landry.
Johnny was a Brick Mason for the past 55 years with many awards in his top-notch work. He was a member of the Bricklayers Union and at one point financial secretary. Johnny was co-owner of Cusack Masonry with Pat Devereau and later with his brother, Barry.
Johnny loved hunting, fishing and especially cooking for many friends and family, passing on a lot of his recipes to his son Mike. He looked forward to spending every minute he could at his beloved bungalow in North River, where he was well known and loved.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Marie (Landry) Cusack of 52 years; sons, Sean O’Leary (Lantz, NS), Todd O’Leary (Toronto), Michael (Danielle Purcel), Grimsby, Ont.; brothers, Barry (Sylvia), Tiger (Linda), Butch (Lynn), Sydney, NS, and Jimmy (Shelina) Edmonton. Alberta; sisters, Colleen (Art) Jones, Linda (Gordie) Covin, both of Sydney, NS, Rosemary (Brendon) MacIntyre, Pearl (Gary) Latour, both Halifax NS, and Kathleen (Jean) Frenette, Ottawa. He is also survived by grandchildren; Drew and Christopher O’Leary, Lantz, NS, and his precious princess, Lila Cusack, Grimsby, Ont. whom he loved to FaceTime with. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, N.S., 902–539–7175. There will be no visitation.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
