It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Louise Reid (née Driscoll) announce her passing at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Lucy (née Gouthro) Driscoll.

Louise graduated from St. Francis Xavier University and Saint Mary’s University. She was a dedicated and hardworking teacher for over 25 years in Glace Bay, having taught at St. Anne's Elementary for many years and finishing her teaching career at Glace Bay High School.

She loved playing the piano, sewing, bowling, baking, spending time with her grandson, and travelling. Her trip to New Zealand in 2000 with her husband, Dave, was one she often talked about for many years. In recent years, she enjoyed seeing Broadway shows in New York City and travelling to Toronto to see the Blue Jays.

Left to mourn her loss are her loving children, David, New Jersey; Michael (Roberta), Halifax; Jennifer (Chad), Lloydminster; Kimberley, Halifax; and her grandson, Nathan. Also surviving are brothers, Cyril, Greg, and Francis, and sister, Adele.

Besides her parents, Louise was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Dave; her sister, Edna; and brother, Joe.

The family wishes to offer their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Willows, Dr. Bowes, and Dr. Knapp for their compassionate care and support. A special thanks to Dr. d’Anjou, her family doctor, for her exceptional kindness, dedication, and unwavering compassion.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, with a Funeral Service to follow at 2 p.m., with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Reception to be held in the lower level of the funeral home following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise’s memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or the QEII Foundation (Cancer Care).
