Hugh Archibald "Gooie" Nicholson Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Hugh “Gooie” Nicholson, born October 2, 1947, who passed away in January 26, 2026, at the age of 78.

Gooie was a caring and loving father, grandfather, partner, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by his son, Jamie Nicholson (wife Beverly); his cherished grandchildren, Brett (Brittany & family), Zachary, and Mallory; and his daughter, Lisa Nicholson (husband Tyson Izzard); and his beloved grandchildren, Aariah and Preston, who all brought him immense pride and joy. He was the son of the late Hugh and Kay, survived by his siblings, Steve (the late Marlyn), Shirley (Gary), Johnie (Terry), Debbie (Kevin), and nieces and nephews.

He is lovingly remembered by his partner, Patsy Flynn, and her children, Natalie, Carla, and Ashley, along with many grandchildren, whom Gooie welcomed wholeheartedly as part of his extended family and held close to his heart.

Gooie spent many years working at the Sydney Steel Plant as a proud member of the Carpenters, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, skill, and genuine love of carpentry. Outside of work, he found happiness in the outdoors and in life’s simple pleasures. He had a passion for sports cars and motorcycles, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and treasured the time he spent at the “Real World” in Loch Lomond; a place where he could work with his hands, watch hummingbirds, and feel at home with Lacey.

One of Gooie’s most treasured experiences was his trip to Europe, where he created lasting memories alongside Pat and close friends from Germany. The trip was filled with laughter, friendship, and moments he spoke of often and fondly.

Gooie will be remembered for his helpful nature, quiet strength, determination, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. Though he may be gone, his stories, skills, and the values he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
