Stephen “Stevie” Alexander Morrison, 89
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our father and grandfather, Stephen “Stevie” Alexander Morrison, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay on June 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Dan and Susan (MacDonald) Morrison.
Dad was employed with Devco, starting in the #20 Mine before moving on to the Transportation Department until his retirement in 1994.
Dad had many talents—playing guitar, singing, and playing hockey. For many years, he played for the Devco Colliery League as a goalie. Dad also had a special love for cars; he would buy, sell, paint, and do auto-body repairs. There wasn’t a car he didn’t own or know how to fix.
There were many summers we spent out on the Mira at Dad’s parents’—Dan and Susan’s—bungalow. We enjoyed family dinners, fishing, and days out on the boat, making lifelong memories with friends and family.
Dad had a special relationship with his grandchildren, Stephen and Brianna. He spent Sundays going on drives with Stephen and enjoying many family dinners. He never left without telling them that he “loved them very much.”
He is survived by his son, Danny (Brenda) Morrison; his daughter, Lisa (Gordy) MacDonald; his grandchildren, Stephen (Angela) Morrison and Brianna (Kody) King; his great-grandchildren, Katharine, Zachary, and Ava Morrison; his cousin, Alec Morrison; and close family friend, Brian Penny.
At this time, we would like to thank Carefield Manor (Dominion, NS) for taking great care of our father, and also the staff of both the Cape Breton Regional and Glace Bay General emergency departments for being so kind and caring to him.
Cremation has taken place under the care of T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Glace Bay.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the reception area at T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, NS. 902-849-4199.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
