Mary Anne Devison (Livingstone) Obituary

Mary Anne Devison (Livingstone)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Mary Anne Devison, on January 23, 2026. Mom passed away peacefully at home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Glace Bay in 1932, Anne was the daughter of the late Hibbert and Katherine (McPhee) Livingstone. She was predeceased by siblings Pauline (Dr. Ron) Bedford Ontario, Mildred (Frank) DiCarlo, New Jersey, Gertrude (Doug) Baxter, Delaware, Edna Caulfield, Ontario, Marjorie Goguen, Quebec, and Harold (Minnie) Livingstone, Glace Bay. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Calder, who passed in 2016.

Mom is survived by her four loving sons, Michael in Vancouver, David in Tara, Paul (Melanie) in Bracebridge, and Brian in Glace Bay. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Breton, Andrew, and Jack, along with many nieces and nephews. Mom is also survived by brother Bert (Gayle) Livingstone in BC.

After graduating from Normal College in 1950, Mom taught at multiple schools throughout Cape Breton, mainly in Glace Bay. She retired from teaching following the birth of her first son. Mom devoted countless hours to door to door canvassing in support of health causes. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Anne’s Parish in Glace Bay.

Mom loved nothing more than curling up with a good book. She was an avid reader until losing her eyesight due to illness. Mom loved baking. Our home was never without the comfort and warmth of treats made with care. Mom took most pride in raising her sons. We were blessed having a Mom who gave her whole heart to raising us, guiding us with quiet strength and constant love. Among our most cherished memories is spending summers together in Mira.

The family extends gratitude to Dr. James MacLean for his care and attention during Mom’s illness, and to the paramedics and staff at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. There will be no visitation or reception. A private family service will be held at a later date.
